Magda Willi (*1978, Zurich, Switzerland) studied Theatre Design at Central St Martins College of Art and Design, London. In 2004, Magda moved to Berlin, where she has been based ever since. 2004 – 2008, Magda worked at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, initially as assistant to the head of set design, Jan Pappelbaum, and from 2005 as set designer. 2008 – 2013 Magda worked freelance in theatres across Germany, in Austria, Switzerland and the UK. In 2011, two of her shows were invited to Theatertreffen; Verrücktes Blut (Crazy Blood), directed by Nurkan Erpulat at Ballhaus Naunynstrasse Berlin/Ruhrtriennale, and Don Carlos, directed by Roger Vontobel at Staatsschauspiel Dresden. In 2013, Magda joined Shermin Langhoff and Jens Hillje’s creative team taking over the Maxim Gorki Theater, Berlin, where she has since been working as head of set design. One of the shows designed for director Yael Ronen at the Gorki, Common Ground, was invited to Theatertreffen 2015. In June 2015, Magda was among the winners of the Swiss Design Awards for her design work.
The Young Vic Theatre’s production of A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by Benedict Andrews, which Magda designed in 2014 was, after it's London run, transferred to New York, where it was presented at St Ann’s Warehouse, Brooklyn, in April/May 2016.

Since Magda started working as a set designer in 2005, she has met and worked with a number of directors, including Thomas Ostermeier, Egill Palsson, Hakan Savas Mican, Ingo Berk, Maximilian von Mayenburg, Uta Plate, and the theatre collective Turbo Pascal, amongst others.

A close working relationship has evolved with directors Benedict Andrews, Sebastian Nübling, Roger Vontobel, Nurkan Erpulat and Yael Ronen.
